Biography

With her versatile repertoire, the Austrian soprano has established herself on the international stages of the most renowned concert halls and festivals. She also loves the opera stage, where she likes to show off her versatility and acting talent.

Recent engagements include Valencienne (The Merry Widow) at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Angelica (Orlando) at the Frankfurt Opera and Elisa (Il re pastore) at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. She appeared in concert performances of Handel's Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno in Switzerland and Belgium with the orchestra Les Passions de l'Âme

Other highlights on the opera stage in recent seasons have been Rezia in Haydn's L'Incontro improvviso at the Donaufestwochen, Hyppolithe in Schürmann's Die getreue Alceste at Winter in Schwetzingen under Christina Pluhar and the role of Eurilla in Vivaldi's La Ninfa e il Pastore at the Festival Opera Barga under Federico Maria Sardelli.

She sang Christel (Der Vogelhändler) at the Cologne Opera, Donna Fulvia (La pietra di paragone by Rossini) at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Papagena at the Teatro Regio di Torino under Asher Fish and at the Musiktheater Linz under Franz Welser-Möst.

Her first permanent engagement took the soprano to the Linz Landestheater, where she appeared from 2009 to 2016 as Norina (Don Pasquale), Musetta (La Bohème), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Despina (Così fan tutte), Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Bellezza (Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno), Anne Frank (The Diary of Anne Frank) and Adele (Die Fledermaus), among others.

On the concert podium, Elisabeth Breuer has sung, among others Brahms' German Requiem at the Vienna Musikverein, Mendelssohn's Paulus with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Haydn's Creation with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the St. John Passion with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the St. Matthew Passion with Hansjörg Albrecht at the Munich Isarphilharmonie, Handel's La Resurrezione with the La Folia Baroque Orchestra, Beethoven's Egmont with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Orff's Carmina Burana at the Vienna Konzerthaus or Schubert's Mass in E flat major at the Styriarte together with the Concentus Musicus, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

As a sought-after interpreter of Mozart's C minor Mass, she has already performed with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding, the Norddeutsche Radiophilharmonie under Andrew Manze, the MDR Symphony Orchestra under Risto Joost and in Israel under Philippe Herreweghe. As a specialist in baroque music, she works closely with Reinhard Goebel, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman and the Bachakademie Stuttgart under Hans-Christoph Rademann.

The 2024/25 season is filled with numerous highlights: Elisabeth Breuer will perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian in Milan and Lucerne as well as with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under Michael Laus. She will perform Orff's Carmina Burana with the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra under Matthias Janz and Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Reinhard Goebel. Under Justin Doyle, she will perform works by Bach and Handel together with the RIAS Chamber Choir and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin in South Korea at the beginning of the season, later appearing with both ensembles at the Berlin Konzerthaus as well as in Barcelona, Valencia and Santander.

Further stops this season include concerts with the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne under Ton Koopman at the Cologne Philharmonie, Handel's Messiah at the Salzburg Festspielhaus with the Philharmonie Salzburg under Elisabeth Fuchs, as well as Bruckner's Te Deum and Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem in Speyer and Mannheim with the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under Markus Melchiori. She will also be a guest again at the Bachakademie Stuttgart under Hans-Christoph Rademann, the International Bach Foundation St. Gallen under Rudolf Lutz, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman and at the opening concert of the Leipzig Bach Festival with the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Thomanerchor under Andreas Reize.

Elisabeth Breuer grew up in Haus im Ennstal in Styria and discovered her love of classical music and singing at an early age. She attended the music branch of the Stiftsgymnasium Admont and then began studying music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. At the same time, she received her vocal training with Elisabeth Batrice.
